Academy Award Winner for Best Picture, Best Actor & more
The 12 awards for The King’s Speech (2010) include: Best Actor, Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, Best Director, and more. The movie conveys a profound message of personal growth and empowerment.
England’s Duke of York, Prince Albert (Queen Elizabeth’s father) played by Colin Firth) must ascend to the throne as King George VI, after the abdication of his brother, King Edward VIII. But he has a life long speech impediment which he is fearful of. Knowing that the country needs her husband to be able to communicate effectively, Elizabeth, his wife, hires Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush) an Australian actor and speech therapist to help King George overcome his stammer. An extraordinary friendship develops between the two as Logue uses unconventional means to teach the monarch how to speak with confidence.
As political unrest and the rise of Nazism and Stalinism became imperative, it becomes important that the new king overcome his stammer and be able to deliver public speeches as the national leader. With the outbreak of World War II, he needs help from Logue more than ever. And he gets it.
